Prepare to be dazzled by the beautiful Patti Plinko, a voice like an angel, with more than a gritty attitude. Patti’s sound could be described as eccentric alternative rag and swing. Sartorially dressed in wartime attire such as silk stockings and blood red shoes Patti adds more than a hint of seduction, her ‘boy’ meanwhile, maintaining the yester-year theme sporting a gas mask.
A combination of Billie Holiday and George Fornby trapped inside a tincan whilst Kate Bush runs off in search of a can opener, Patti’s music is heavily influenced by old European cinema and British music hall. Her performance incorporates flickering illusions, which accompany the rag and tin tunes that Patti whispers and woos into hand made tincan grama mics. This artist has certainly returned to more ‘traditional’ methods of recording and remains in keeping with her performance style; all songs recorded in one live take on an old tin made microphone.
Following a very successful week at the Edinburgh Fringe, Patti Plinko has now been asked to support The Puppini Sisters on their imminent October UK tour. Other successful gigs have included Latitude Festival and cult followings at the Black Gardenia in London’s Soho. She has also been named as Pick of the Week by BBC radio Cambridge with her live performance in the studio.
It seems difficult to believe that a wartime themed band could be quite as sexy, but an enticing and captivating performance from Patti certainly conjures up the reminiscent images of smoke filled rooms and stolen kisses.
