The 2008 A-Z of Reasons Not To Go To Bed! Part 1

The first month of 2008 is over, the Sales signs have come down from the shop windows, and the desire to get out and about after a frugal January spent indoors will be rearing it’s pretty party-head.

I have, as your loyal London lady-about-town, spent the past month braving the cold and sampling the early-bird offerings from the entertainment world to bring you the definitive A-Z guide to the activities which will be guaranteed to give you your fill of fun for the year ahead…

All Star Lanes Bowling: Getting a strike has never been so stylish. All Star Lanes in Bayswater (0207 313 8363) offers an American diner-style food menu well worth putting the ball down for and a cocktail list delicious enough to make everyone a winner…Even the bowling shoes are kinda cool – now that has to be a first.

I expect many a party to be held this year in the ‘Private Bowling’ room – it has its own bar, DJ and a secret entrance and exit to escape from the fearsome flash of the papps!

Boxing: 2008 promises to be a big year for British boxers, with Amir Khan winning yet another fight and Joe Calzaghe sure to draw a cheering crowd to Las Vegas this April. I strongly suggest you book tickets now for the big bouts happening in London this year.

The atmosphere is electric and you just can’t help but get caught up in the excitement…or the sight of those defined arms, or those ripped torsos… Okay, stop. Just go. Log on to www.boxing-monthly.co.uk to stay up to date.

China: I have long recognised the extreme importance of the late-night London Chinese restaurants who serve me and my merry mates wine well after 4am, but 2008 is set to be the year where China leaves a longer-lasting impression on our city.

China in London is a festival which will span from February 6 to April 6. There is a huge choice of options – Chinese Opera, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Chinese Hip-hop as well as educationally entertaining exhibitions such as the infamous Terracotta Soldiers at the British Museum.

I would recommend making an effort to join the traditional Chinese New Year Parade on February 10 – and make those resolutions anew! Visit www.chinanow.org.uk for full details on all events.

Join me soon for the next alphabetic installment of reasons not to go to bed!
