2007 saw Cansei de Ser Sexy of Sao Paulo and Bonde do Role from Curitiba bursting onto both the UK and US music scenes. Chic Today predicts the arrival of more Brazilian electro-pop bands in 2008.

Mono 4 are a three-piece band currently making a big impact in Sao Paulo, their home city. We caught up with them at one of their energetic live shows:

You seem very close, how long have you been performing together?

“Haha, sometimes we tell people that we were born together, that we are all related! We’ve been together since September 9 2006, but have been friends for a long time – we went to the same clubs for dancing and fun times.”

How would you describe your sound?

“We like to make real music – music that we would listen to ourselves. Our sound is new and exciting.”

You sing in English but this isn´t your mother-tounge, do you write your own lyrics?

“We write our own songs – sometimes together, but normally it´s Pollak on his own. He always uses our personal experiences for inspiration.”

Which other bands inspires you?

“We have similar musical tastes but each have different bands that act as our inspiration. Groups like Sigur Rós, Ima Robot, Soulwax, Tycho, The knife, DataRock, and Crystal Castles.”

With contagious lyrics and fun production, we think Mono 4 are destined for big things.
