Here are the answer to your questions.
1) Because I always like to work with my hands, I was interested in sciences from a very early age and there a lot of dentist and doctors in my family. Above all, I was interested in the cosmetic aspect of it all.
2) No it doesn’t affect my private life in any way.
3)The best part is helping people with their health. You can have a real impact on people’s life by helping them to improve their health and changing or improving their smile, all of which has a huge psychological impact.
4)Of course it will improve, just like the rest of the medical field. Dentistry will become more and more important as we discover year by year that the mouth and the teeth are connected to the entire body. It is also benefiting from all the technological advances that have been taking place in the last few years.
5) Dentistry is one of the most difficult disciplines of the medical field as the teeth are very sensitive and people clearly dislike to go to the dentist; it is also physically and mentally challenging. However, it is also the most rewarding profession as you can choose to do whatever you want as we have 9 different specialties.
It can be very creative and one can choose to deal with aesthetic and/or surgical aspects or deal with oral surgery or Implants.

Hi Dr Fugier,
I have for years wanted to get braces, since my teens, I am now in my early twenties. But I have put it off in fear that it would ruin the shape of my mouth that is full and has a nice pout. My dentist told me that I don’t really need braces as it is only my two front teeth that are slightly crooked. However, they also need a slight realignment to look completely straight. What I wanted to ask was, is my fear warranted? Will I lose my pout or will the shape of my mouth change? Is this something you have ever witnessed? I appreciate any response.
