Can you imagine a more perfect way to spend an afternoon than by sifting through a collection of fabulous wardrobes and accessories of the uber trendy and also have the opportunity to buy at 50 – 75% off the original retail price? I was definitely keen to get involved even despite the 79 degree heat!
Buy My Wardrobe is a new initiative which recognises that recycling can indeed be incorporated in glamorous designer fashion. A selection of highly regarded fashionistas gather for one day to literally sell their wares to members of the public. As consumers we are now becoming more eco-conscious and are now not so impressed with purchasing ridiculous quantities of cheap clothing simply because they are cheap. This event provides an alternative to High Street shopping and gives us a fantastic opportunity to lay our hands upon high quality designer pieces at discounted prices.
As I took refuge from the sun and stepped inside Maddox, the chosen Mayfair Venue for the Buy My Wardrobe event, I was filled with excitement at what my eyes saw before me. With wardrobes from 20 different girls there were styles to suit all tastes and budgets. As well as vintage, couture, boutique brands and up pieces from up and coming designers from around the world, I was blissfully surrounded by Chloe, Marc Jacobs, Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci, entwined with hints of Lipsy, Coach and Converse. The range was simply incredible and I was in heaven! In addition to the clothes, shoes and accessories, the event also gave us the opportunity to chat and sample the incredible work of Nadira; a make-up artist and expert who works her magic on celebrities, television productions and within the editorial field.
There was certainly a great buzz and everyone seemed to be having fun whilst they shopped. It almost felt like for that day, I had uncovered a hidden gem. Everyone was friendly and thriving upon their fantastic bargains unbeknown to the bustle of Oxford Street only yards away from the venue. One particular bargain I spotted was certainly tempting and came in the form of the brand new Louis Vuitton wallet which retails at £220. It was available at Buy My Wardrobe for £110.
It is important to recognise however the purpose of this event. Buy My Wardobe is the brain child of designer Kal Kaur Rai who runs a successful clothing label which currently sold through over 100 boutiques worldwide. Kal is very much inspired by encouraging consumers to become more eco conscious and therefore 10% of all tickets sold at the event will be donated to Project Mala, an action programme for the elimination of child labour in India. Many sellers at the event were also raising funds for charities of their choice such as Mencap.
And with my £10 American Apparel Diane Von Furstenberg Limited Edition T-Shirt, £30 Modalu Handbag, and £2 each Jemma Kidd make-up selection, it only seemed appropriate to end the afternoon with a well deserved glass of champagne at the bar. On reflection, a wonderful shopping experience with a great principle and ethic behind it. I cannot wait for the next Buy My Wardrobe event!
