Haute Cuisine In Laos

Ban Vat Nong, Luang Prabang, Laos

L’Elephant is a super stylish bistro in the heart of Luang Prabang – the ancient royal capital of Laos. Set in a beautiful high-ceilinged colonial building, the restaurant is run by French expats and has a relaxed atmosphere and extremely attentive waiting staff.

At US$20, the three-course set menus are great value and include a range of tasty dishes from roasted duck with a Grand Marnier sauce to water buffalo steak and chips to baked eggplant.

Imported cheeses, steaks and wines serve as a pleasant alternative to traditional Laos cuisine.

By Laos standards it’s quite an expensive dining experience but where else in the world can you get boneless quail stuffed with local mushrooms on a red currant sauce for less than US$10?!
