For those of you lucky enough to be in San Francisco, kick off the upcoming Labour Day weekend by attending a culinary event like no other. Slow Food Nation begins tomorrow and runs through to the 1st of September, aiming to introduce people to food that is ‘good, clean and fair’ whilst celebrating the spirit of the sustainable food movement. This four-day affair is absolutely bursting with activities (many of which have already sold out), and highlights include the fifteen different Taste Pavilions offering samples of regional American food, as well as the various Taste Workshops offering an in-depth guide to specific gastronomical experiences (Sunday’s Exploring Chocolate and Coffee Pairings promises to be scrumptiously exciting…)
And whilst you’re there, make sure you tuck into the world’s original ’supernutrient’–fibre. Found in parts of plant foods such as cereals, fruits, vegetables and pulses, fibre can reduce the risk of heart disease, support the immune system, help combat cancer and keep weight in check. In fact, the Fibre Foundation has recently released its New F Word Report, which reveals that 8 out of 10 of us aren’t getting enough of this essential nutrient–so make sure you pick up a few fresh fruit smoothies and wholemeal organic sandwiches whilst you’re there.
