Think Honolulu, and images of endless beaches, palm trees and surfing wave are sure to spring to mind. But life is about looking beyond the boundaries of the stereotypical and reveling in insightful unexpectancies–such as the Vogue in Japan: Edo Fashion Through Japanese Prints exhibition currently being held at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. This detailed display focuses upon 4 distinct elements of pre-Edo (1615-1868) fashion, namely the fashion of married women, the fashion of lingerie, men’s fashion and the fashion of people from differing classes. A highly refreshing and original glimpse into historical Japan. Until the 19th October.
On the other side of the globe, other stereotypes will be re-interpreted at Gallerie Taksu in Kuala Lumpur, which shall be hosting Samsudin Wahab’s first solo exhibition entitled Enough. The works of this 24 year old artist have been making waves across the region, and his latest creations shall be revealed on the 11th of September. His unique, semi-abstract style is definitely set to turn him into Asia’s next big thing within art circles globally. Until 30th September.
