Though it may appear strange to some, to me chocolate and clothes have always been on the same level. I mean, the words even begin with the same letter and elegance in clothes can only be surpassed by elegance in a truffle or an exotic single-origin chocolate bar.
So, it’s no surprise that the fashion world has finally caught on. Upon entry into the magical realm of the Tents at Bryant Park, for NY Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Friday, I was greeted by the Lu Biscuits Lounge, a lovely place to rest one’s tired feet and mind, after a round at the sport of “getting into the hottest shows, without chipping a nail”. This was the place to enjoy a wonderful espresso, with a lovely chocolate biscuit in hand, surrounded by ladies dressed in the colors of LU, and forget the injuries of the fashion war. At the Geren Ford Spring show, the goodie bags had a wonderful Vosges mini Woolloomooloo Bar, which didn’t even make it halfway home with me. The Walter Spring ‘09 collection had outfits inspired by the LU Petit Écolier biscuit and a little sample of the milk chocolate variety of the cookie awaiting members of the audience, at their seats. And then this morning, I got introduced to Theo’s Fig Fennel & Almond dark chocolate bar, in a suite at the Bryant Park Hotel, just opposite the Tents.
It’s all coming full circle tomorrow, when hot celebrity designer Erin Fetherston reveals her big secret and unveils her project with the LU brand, four days after presenting her spectacular Spring ‘09 collection in the Tents. Speculations have gone the route of the absurd, with people alluding to a Lu Biscuit gown and the likes. I am pretty sure Ms. Fetherston won’t be making that, but whatever she comes up with, it will be worth checking out. So, stay tuned… And if I am wrong about the Lu Biscuit gown, well, I’ll just have to eat my words, and that chocolate couture concoction as well!
