Paul Newman, 83, the legendary actor who won an Honorary Academy Award in 1986 and captured hearts across the globe with his staggering performances, passed away Friday night after losing his fight with cancer, revealed his publicist Jeff Sanderson.

Newman’s close friends and family were at his bedside when he died yesterday in his farmhouse close to Westbury, Connecticut.

According to CNN, the actor had been battling with cancer for almost three years. Although he tried to retain the information from the public for as long as possible, keeping it within his circle of family and friends, it was eventually leaked.

Newman enthralled audiences everywhere with his acting. His presence on stage evoked unprecedented emotions and grasped at the strongest of hearts, causing one to gasp as his character went from one scene to the next. He was an artist who perfected his art and in each movie that he starred in, he brought the audience on an incomparable journey.

The legendary actor worked alongside many legends and prominent actors, such as the unrivalled Robert Redford, Tom Cruise, and Tom Hanks.

His remarkable acting can be seen in at least 50 movies, however, the roles he was most well known for were in such acclaimed motion pictures as The Sting, The Colour of Money, Cool Hand Luke, and Hud.

As noted by The Guardian, his performances nominated him for an Oscar ten times and in his lifetime he won three of them. Acting, however, was not his only call to life, although he loved it very much. In fact, Newman was also an activist for the people. He constantly immersed himself in charity work, such as starting his own food company, Newman’s Own, which donated millions in food and money to charity, and his Hole in The Wall holiday camps for children with critical health conditions.

Paul Newman’s craft was acting. His passion was racing. His love was his family and friends. And his heart and soul were dedicated to helping make the world a better place for all,” said the vice-chairman of Newman’s Own Foundation, Robert Forrester.

Though this legendary star is no longer among us, we can still feel his presence in our hearts, and through his numerous movie roles, we can keep him alive forever.
