Even the quintessential Happily Unmarried Ever After woman like me gets all mushy and teary-eyed at the sight of a beautiful wedding dress or the perfect multi-tiered wedding cake covered in luscious fondant. I admit without shame to watching Platinum Weddings on WE-TV and crying big, salty tears during the wedding scenes of my favorite Bollywood films. But as awe-inspiring as a bridal gown or wedding cake can be, none can even begin to hold a candle to the same covered in Crystallized™ Swarovski Elements. Many, many, many of those precious Elements.
On Wednesday evening, various celebrities, NYC personalities and members of the press were treated to the
official New York unveiling of the Crystallized™ Swarovski Elements Wedding Event, an exhibit which featured one-of-a-kind creations from leading designers of fashion, jewelry and accessories – and even interiors – all utilizing those spectacular Swarovski gems. Among the coveted items, a beautiful cream-colored velvet gown – with sexy lace inlays to show a peek-a-boo leg – designed by the fabulous John Galliano, one pretty and perfect silk covered in tulle gown and studded with crystals, by that true gem of the bridal designers Reem Acra and one from the Grand-Dame of fashion Vivienne Westwood with mirror-work, cutout details, embroidery and a drop-dead-gorgeous long silhouette. But for this girl, the one spectacular item that made me want to a)- grab one of those handsome men interspersed among the impeccably dressed women at the party, b)- give up my single status once and for all and c)- say I do, right then and there, was the 4 foot-tall, six tier wedding cake by Ron Ben-Israel, covered in 50,000 Crystallized™ Swarovski Elements. No words would really, truly do such a magnificent creation justice. Only the photos throughout this piece can tell a microscopic part of that magical story.
Held at the start of the dreamy Bridal Couture Market week, which turns the typical “Sex and the
City”single-girl atmosphere of the Big Apple all topsy turvy and wedding romantic, this event took place in the open air grandeur of 620 Loft & Garden, at Rockefeller Center, with the breathtaking Saint Patrick’s Cathedral as a backdrop. Absolutely perfect and unusually warm weather graced the bare shoulders of all the fashionistas dressed in sequins and metallic shoes, some even sporting jewelry designed by glittering heiress Nadja Swarovski. Catered by Great Perfomances, the evening was attended by Gossip Girl’s Amanda Setton and Elizabeth Banks of the upcoming “Zack and Miri Make a Porno”, among others.
On the way out, just when I thought the evening could not possibly get any better, a lovely bag filled
with goodies was placed in my arms. It contained a copy of the Swarovski book “Unbridaled”, a wedding bible of sorts filled with stunning designs, travel tidbits and great info, some Godiva chocolate and a stylish bottle of water by Moreno, studded with crystals spelling out the word Bride or Groom, depending on our luck. As fortune would have it, mine said “Bride” and that is exactly what I now feel like being. The star of my own lavish, bejeweled wedding, with an elegant Ron Ben-Israel cake as the centerpiece. Yes, you read it first on Chic Today – the HUEA girl is now looking for the dazzling “Groom” mate to her crystal water bottle… Ask yourself, do you feel lucky?
