Spring into Green

The word ‘green’ derives from the Old English verb ‘growan’ (to grow), which itself may be traced to back to Western Germanic and Scandinavian languages. As a colour, it is often associated with regeneration, fertility, rebirth, and nature. In Ancient Egypt, green was a symbol of resurrection and immortality, whilst in China, green is connected to the east and the sunrise. Why all this talk of green? Because with all this talk of doom and gloom that we are constantly being bombarded with, from the news on tv to the radio and online, it’s refreshing to be different and think positive. Throw on some green and prepare to regenerate, resurrect and rise.

The clever people at Bree have taken the simple paper carrier and used it as their inspiration for their latest Simply collection of bags. Made from ultra-fine goat skin, this sleek, light-weight creation is perfect for bringing some colour to drab offices and can be used as an alternative to the traditional laptop case. If you’re travelling, it’s perfect for storing all those essentials, from your eye mask and neck pillow to your passport. Now also available in clear, brightly-hued plastic. Of course, it goes without saying that their forest-green model (left) is our favourite.

From the studio of Lyndie Dourthe, delicate, charming bijoux emerge that enchant all that lay eyes upon them. Drawing inspiration from nature, the human anatomy and French ‘cabinets of curiosities,’ she creates brooches, necklaces and decorative pieces from paper and fabrics, which she hand stitches together and embellishes with embroidery and beads. Her unique ‘bijoux de terre’ pin (above) is inspired by botany and is sure to bring you back to your green roots. Pick yours up at Egg Mercantile’s e-boutique.

Jen and Jamie are two fabulous LA-based stylists who have come together and created Ban.do, a brand of head creations which we well and truly adore. Each piece is hand made and is ‘one-of-a-kind,’ made from everything from tulle to vintage Japanese gold and red leaves. One of our favourites is No.80, made from green peacock feathers, an orange rhinestone button and vintage velvet leaves (right). The shimmering blue and green tones of this glorious head piece are sure to grab everyone’s attention–what’s not to love?
