The curve of the waist is perhaps one of the most sensuous features of a woman’s body, and one which is sometimes forgotten in favour of bosoms and derrières. Yet all it takes is a striking belt or a glorious dress with sumptuous details and voilà, femininity emerges in all its glory.

Jessica Alba was certainly exuding femininity at yesterday’s launch of Campari’s 2009 Club Calendar, held at Milan’s Museo della Permanente (known by locals as ‘La Permanente’, Via Turati 34). Gracing a stunning red dress from Dolce & Gabbana’s S/S 09 collection, Jessica’s knee-length gown featured hand-embroidered details and Baroque-inspired brooches which were sewn onto the waist of the dress. These rich embellishments were quite simply showstopping, and ones which were balanced with Jessica’s relatively simply yet refined Bulgari Vintage accessories. With guests that included Donatella Versace and Alessandro dell’Acqua, guests spent the evening sipping on Campari (of course, what else) whilst listening to the sounds of Daniel Beck–son of Donatella–performing live on stage.

If you’re looking for a slightly less extravagant yet equally eye-catching way of defining your waist, then you’ve got to get your hands on one of Little Shilpa’s belts. Inspired by old military attire, her S/S 09 collection of accessories blend antique medals, elegant brocades and vintage chains upon a palette-base of sand, bottle green and khaki. Perfect for pairing with jeans or a simple white cotton dress.

And for those of you who want something that will add a dash of sparkle and emphasize your curves, pick up Miu Miu’s crystal buckle belt. Made from metallic gold leather and crystals, this is an accessory takes you from day to night in a flutter of an eyelash.
