After a night of extravagant fun and drinking yesterday, this morning you probably awoke muttering that infamous phrase: ‘I’m never drinking again.’ Although there is no magic remedy for a hangover, here are a few cures that can help ease the woes of a night of drinking.
Alcohol causes the body to severely dehydrate and lose important salts and minerals. Drinking plenty of water, fresh orange juice or sports drinks, such as Gatorade, will help replenish your body and flush out the toxins. Painkillers may also help ease the headache, however they should be taken with extreme caution as they will cause additional strain to your liver.
Another great remedy is to try eating something packed with carbs, proteins and vitamins. It is important to give your body a jolt of energy, whether through a plate of bacon and eggs, a bagel with cream cheese, or a strawberry fruit smoothie. If you’re feeling too nauseous to eat, try nibbling on a small packet of crackers along with some water.
A recipe which may sound repulsive but which many swear by, is a non-alcoholic mix that is sure to make you stand right up on your feet. For the mix you will need:
- 1 part olive oil
- 1 raw egg
- A pinch of salt
- A pinch of pepper
- 1-2 tablespoons of tomato ketchup
- A dash of Tabasco sauce
- A few drops of lemon juice or vinegar
Mix these ingredients all together, preferably in a blender, and drink it in one go (or at least try to).
If none of these will help, then opt for the cure which will definitely set you straight: sleep. And plenty of it.
