Acing It in New York

Ace Hotel New YorkCome March 1st, something quite extraordinary is going to happen in New York–a brand new boutique hotel shall be opening. As much as we detest the b-word, which has been overused and overhyped ad nauseam, we’ve decided to highlight this upcoming accommodation because it is set to revolutionize the hip hotel scene.

Seattle-based Ace Hotels Group will be inaugurating its first East coast hotel in Manhattan’s Soma (south of Macy’s) district, more precisely on 29th Street and Broadway. This 247-room venture will be set within the old Breslin Hotel, and will feature Music Hall turntables, collections of vinyl and complimentary guitar strings (along with Gibson guitars, of course) much to the pleasure of its future guests. Leather sofas, custom-made Wings + Horns bathrobes and Smeg fridges are just some of the glorious decorative accents which adorn each deluxe room, and the hotel exudes an independent spirit and musical vibe which echoes the history of the neighbourhood.

However, what will truly set this hotel apart from the rest, aside from its distinct ‘resourceful rehab’ attitude, will be the culinary and retail experiences that it will offer. In fact, Stumptown Coffee Roasters will be serving some of the best coffee in town; Spotted Pig owner Ken Friedman will be opening a scrumptious brand new restaurant, whilst concept boutique Project No. 8 will be mixing retail with a dash of culture.

For those of you planning a trip to Manhattan, or for you local New Yorkers looking for a breath of creative air in a different neighbourhood, make sure you visit Ace Hotel come spring. We’re certain you’ll fall in love with the words ’boutique hotel’ all over again.
