Ashish was most definitely the ticket of the week, as he dragged the fashion crowd out of its spiritual home (South Kensington) to Leicester Square’s Hippodrome.
Ashish’s shows traditionally convey a sense of fun, sparkle and irony, however this season (perhaps to demonstrate that he is not feeling the credit crunch), Ashish went all out to shock the crowd’s fashion senses. The models–who strutted down the runway to the live vocals courtesy of VV Brown–were covered from top to toe in outfits that simply shouldn’t have worked and which yet, despite everything, did.
Clashing leopard print tights, in a host of neon colours, were teamed underneath practically every look modelled. The circus themed collection wowed the crowd with sequined jackets and dresses in bright hues, signatures of Ashish’s style. In contrast to this wave of extravagance, the tamer pieces which appeared included sweatshirts decorated in ringmaster style epulates and a fetching jumper decorated with a zebra (complete with fringed mane!)
Dresses were embellished with the names of various metropolises, conveying the idea of a ‘travelling circus’, while other pieces were heavily adorned with woollen pom-pons.
As usual there were some great, commercial pieces. These included a sequined, thigh skimming shift in silver grey, some wearable knitwear and various wide-legged trousers, which were displayed in a range of colours from powder blue to hot pink.
Although this is by far the most colourful and crazy collection of the week, one can’t help worry about Ashish’s finances–after all, how easy will it really be to pull off those ‘Stars and Stripes’ sequined trousers?
