London Fashion Week Day #2: Peter Jensen, Ann-Sofie Back

Peter Jensen A/W 09-10Due to the day’s scheduling, the fashion crowd today was treated to two hot designers–Peter Jensen and Ann Sofie Back–all at once.

With an impressive front row entourage that included US and UK Vogue, Elle, Vanity Fair and Kanye West, the turnout confirmed that London is hotting up once again as the place to be for all things fashion. Peter Jensen already has a large US following, with numerous stockists in New York alone, so it was unsurprising that he managed to turn out such a varied crowd.

Adopting a Peruvian theme for A/W 09-10, Jensen showed an extensive collection that combined both men’s and women’s wear. The look was all about layering and clashing prints, combining futuristic colours, such as metallic silver and acid pink, with traditional prints of dogtooth and floral. In short, the collection was a sensory overdrive.

The Jensen boys were dressed to party in cool, off kilter, print suits in oversized dogtooth, florals and wave-like striped prints. They too were treated to the layered look, with many tightly bound bomber jackets, cinched in with waist belts, making an appearance.

The Jensen girls showed off mismatched suiting, dainty cardigans with frills and floral blouses, which were layered with oversized jackets tightly belted at the waist. Sleeves were for the most part blouson and buttoned at the elbow. With so many layers (and unusually fast walking models) it was quite hard to decipher the various layers.

Trouser shapes were both skinny and calf length, finishing just above the models’ flat boots (perhaps the reason behind the quick walking.) Jensen had obviously done his research, as numerous tops were decorated with intricate, traditional Peruvian embroidery, while jewellery was handcrafted. Finely knit mini ponchos were also key in helping maintain and enhance the Peruvian theme, and these also allowed Jensen to mix his futuristic designs with a more authentic, traditional feel. Personal favourite looks included a women’s wear jacket printed with bright depictions of children, and a silver dogtooth skirt suit.

With such a large crowd, the hearty whoops that accompanied the final applause (so very uncharacteristic of the London shows), definitely highlighted Jensen’s success.
