Showing at On/Off this season, Falguni and Shane Peacock presented a collection of embellished dresses and incredible prints that were quite simply showstopping. Fabrics were predominantly chiffon and silk, while prints featured everything from off kilter checks to cosmic like swirls. Colours were vivid and vivacious, with purples being mixed with metallic gold and silver hues. Green, yellow, monochromes and hot pink all were featured within this explosive, OTT line.
The collection, like many presented this week, concentrated on offering great detailing. One dress was appliquéd with incredible, tiny pin-tucks that added beautiful surface decoration; while another, a hot pink frock, used fringing to create tribal patterns. Dresses were covered in lavish embellishments, from appliquéd flowers, to feathers, tassels and bejewelled rocks, all adding craftsmanship of great intensity to the mix of eye popping prints.
Floor length frocks were treated to stunning drapes that added volume and shape. Dresses were all asymmetric, with backs that had practically been cut away to nothing. Shoulders were highly structured and there was certainly something very ‘futuristic tribal warrior’ about the garments that were presented.
With the credit crunch in full swing, it seems designers have gone one of two ways. Some, such as Costelloe and Jackson, have re-addressed the basics, whilst others, such as Falguni and Shane Peacock, are still searching for the new and innovative. It is this eclectic mix that will ensure that London remains the vibrant global fashion hot spot that it is.
