Everyone has a little piece of Peter Pan within them, an inner child which allows them to escape from the monotony of the daily grind. The Disney interpretation of this classic fairytale is a fond childhood memory of many, and one which can be easily relieved through our stylistic choices. All it takes is a dash of imagination and healthy dose of child-like spirit.
In her latest S/S 09 collection, the eclectic Betsey Johnson has looked to the magical world of Neverland for inspiration. Peter Pan, as well as Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean, are blended together to form a colourful, extravagant and ‘over-the-top’ line that will have you wishing that you could fly.
Alexander McQueen’s environmental S/S 09 collection was paraded by models donning delicate masks of netting that were as adventurous as the Lost Boys themselves. With his outfits imprinted with wood bark patterns and a nature-inspired palette, it is easy to escape to the tree houses and caves of these adventurous orphan boys.
Shades of green feature strongly in Isaac Mizrahi’s enchanting spring collection, and no other colour says Peter Pan as much as a verdant hue. One dress in particular combines a plunging neckline, three different shades of green, and a shower of sparkling pixie dust that simply screams Tinker Bell.
Accessories such as Willenlund’s S/S 09 cobalt blue suede and leather heels or the Roberto Cavalli Star Resin Bangle (above) are the perfect way to add some Wendy-inspired tones to your outfit, as is Vivienne Westwood’s glorious turquoise bead bracelet with crystal embellishments.
So whether you take a cue from the latest fashion runways or your favourite Disney movie, incorporate a dash of Peter Pan magic into your life. The flight into Neverland is worth the escape from reality…at least for a little while.
