Bethenny Frankel, shooting like a comet through the heavens, has now been on the New York Times Best Seller List for 6 weeks with her book, Naturally Thin: Unleash Your Skinnygirl and Free Yourself from a Lifetime of Dieting. Gaining visibility by the second, Bethenny will be off to the races at Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby next week, covering the event as a correspondent for NBC. It is just one of her numerous engagements, for Bethenny is perennially busy baking and developing fresh new products for her brand. Of course, those of us addicted to The Real Housewives of New York City will know her and love her as the mouth most quoted on the Bravo show, and many will recognise her as the finalist in The Apprentice: Martha Stewart.

Chic Today recently had a quick chat with this inspiring natural foods chef and discovered a little more about the Bethenny Frankel way of life.

How have the Housewives reacted to your book and approach to food?

Jill totally follows my book and has trimmed down as a result. She loves my ‘Taste Everything, Eat Nothing’ rule. Luann is a fan of the Skinnygirl Margarita and Ramona likes the ‘Your diet is a bank account’ approach.

How does the Bethenny empire fare on Housewives?

I am a single woman with no family who works 24 hours a day. The show accurately portrays me as constantly working and building my brand.

Would you say that the Bethenny Frankel philosophy is to allow people to be?

The Bethenny philosophy is all about affordable, accessible health which helps people develop a healthy relationship with food.

‘Eat the Rainbow’ is part of the Frankel food approach. Does it extend to your attitude towards color in your wardrobe?

Yes, I love color. Colors show confidence. Also, as I am constantly being photographed and often on TV, color ‘pops’ more and is vibrant, friendly and accessible.

As a personality who works her own styling (and does a great job of it), do you design your outfits the way you ‘design your dinner’?

I do design like I cook. I assess the occasion, determine the main dish (dress) then accessorize accordingly.

Your favorite thing about the Derby?

The hats and the cocktails.

Where will your eye go first: the hats, the outfits , or the horses at Churchill Downs?

Hats, hats, hats.

After the Skinnygirl Eats and the Skinnygirl Drinks, where does she go from there…?

Skinnygirl Cocktails will be in bookstores June. 4 more books are lined up, including Skinnygirl: Entertaining and Dining Out and a Skinnygirl cookbook. I’m also planning to launch a Skinnygirl active clothing range and Skinnygirl lollipops.
