Are You Obsessed?

Along with the value of the global dollar, the value of true love also seems to be steadily declining. Genuine characteristics such as trust, honesty and longevity are finding little space in today’s relationships, which appear to favour the company of lies and betrayal. Such issues are well explored in the recently released movie Obsessed  starring Beyoncé Knowles, Idris Elba and Ali Larter, who recount the tale of the modern day Fatal Attraction.

Without giving too much away, the film chronicles the lives of Derek Charles (Elba) and his wife Sharon Charles (Knowles), who initially met whilst Sharon was working as his assistant. Their office romance quickly turns into a happy marriage, complete with the perfect baby and the white picket fence. Bearing in mind how they first met, Sharon keeps a close eye on Derek’s office entourage. In walks Lisa Sheridan (Larter) who quickly falls for her charming, high powered boss. Needless to say, her infatuation quickly turns into a full blown fatal attraction, leaving Derek and his family to affront the fight of their lives.

This is perhaps Beyoncé’s best cinematic effort to date and one she has revealed as being equally as proud of, considering it is the first film in which she does not play a singer. But what are you to take away from this movie? Does it prompt you to re-evaluate the qualities (or the ones you aspire to) that serve as the basis of your relationship? Or does it merely help you escape the everyday monotony?

Well for one, Obsessed will confirm that canoodling with another damsel’s husband will certainly do you no good (indeed, the story concludes with probably one of the most dramatic girl-fights we’ve seen in a while). Secondly, it will teach you of the valuable power of trust in relationships (or the lack thereof, for that matter). And lastly, it will reveal the lengths one family is willing to go to ensure that it is not torn apart by someone who just won’t let go, and the passion one wife and mother has for the integrity of her family, her husband and her child.

So forget about the value of the global dollar for now, and rediscover the value of true love.
