This November, enter the mystical world of award-winning filmmaker Tim Burton at MoMA, New York City.
The Tim Burton Images retrospective showcases artwork from movies such as the acclaimed Edward Scissorhands in addition to cartoons, storyboards, paintings and 3-D pieces.
Ron Magliozzi, assistant curator to MoMA’s Department of Film, gave Chic Today an exclusive glimpse into the upcoming exhibition.
“Fans of his films will be delighted to see a number of his childhood and amateur films that have never before been available; others will be pleased to see a number of choice costumes from Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Planet of the Apes and Batman.”
Film buffs will also be able to view props and puppets from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Mars Attacks, Corpse Bride and Batman Returns. The exhibition will also feature sculpted maquettes from Beetlejuice, Vincent, and Trick or Treat.
In order to commemorate Burton’s extraordinary career, the museum is also giving visitors the opportunity to watch his films on the big screen. And if you’re really lucky, the man of the hour may put in a special appearance.
“We are showing all of Tim Burton’s 14 feature films and his shorts in 35mm, as well as a second series of Lurid Beauty selections based on the films that Burton credits as influences,” Magliozzi commented.
Burton’s next film, Alice in Wonderland, is due to be released in 2010. Dive into the rabbit hole and be mesmerised by Burton’s world of lurid fantasy. In Magliozzi’s words, the MoMA exhibition displays “a new and fresh understanding of the range and breadth of Burton’s talents as an artist.”
