Although recent economic reports are noting signs of recovery, the times of living lavishly and spending mindlessly are (thankfully) past. Stella McCartney comes to the rescue with eco-chic garments that promote sustainable fashion and ethics, giving consumers a reason to invest in luxe green garments.
McCartney, who is an animal rights advocate and abhors fashion’s love affair with fur, creates stunning capsule collections from organic materials and sustainable sources. “Care is an extension of our brand but it is also a responsible product,” McCartney says on her website. “It’s for a person who wants to take responsibility and enables someone to make a first step in that direction.”
A recent Mintel survey of 2,500 adults confirms that pricey eco-conscious merchandise may survive the recession because of its value-added proposition and the fact that it represents a lifestyle choice. With the horizon of a better financial day at our feet, consumers need smart reasons to start spending and aid economic recovery. What better way to boost us out of our melancholic mood than buying sustainable products à la Stella? “I really wanted to change what I saw out there,” says McCartney. “For me, it is the principle.”
McCartney’s best piece of green advice? “Start today. To reduce your impact on the environment, you need to be aware of the consequences of your everyday actions. By starting today, you can make a difference tomorrow.”
