The Checked List

Fall 2009 checked our style lists with designers mixing and matching plaid patterns with solid colours. DKNY and Christopher Kane adopted a sombre preppy approach, while Diane von Furstenberg and Isaac Mizrahi introduced a kaleidoscope of colours. Commes des Garçons and Vivienne Westwood Red Label embraced the avant-garde, while Dsquared and Marni accented winter ensembles with plaid accessories.

This trend can be tricky and is best administered in small doses like Jessica Biel‘s sexy YSL skirt. If in the mood to go all out, keep accessories to a minimum like Amerie, who rocked a Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress with flirty accents. A gingham scarf by Crumpet adds subtle glamour, while Aquascutum‘s trench is a fall staple. The angular pattern, asymmetric hem and wrap-around belt flatters most figures, although best suited to hourglass shapes with feminine curves and angular shoulders. Curvy ladies should flaunt gingham either in muted tone-on-tone colours or accessories.

From this season to the next, take heed of this fashion flash and go glam with gingham!
