The lyrics and music of musicians have the power to change the lives of individuals. Rock band 30 Seconds to Mars has taken this concept one step further by reaching out to fans and turning them into an integral part of their change-initiating efforts.

The band has made it its mission to open the eyes of individuals worldwide and to raise their awareness of our planet’s grave climatic health. What started as an environmental awareness music video for the song ‘A Beautiful Lie’ soon turned into a global campaign.

Since then, the band has created a website which provides fans with the opportunity to change the planet through simple 30-second tips and actions which they can implement on a daily basis.

For instance, one recent tip posted on the website suggests inflating one’s tires to their proper pressure. How does this benefit the environment? This simple gesture saves 200,000 barrels of oil in the course of one day.

In addition, the site also provides individuals with news and basic facts concerning the environment, and also offers the opportunity to make donations to other earth-friendly organizations. Simply put, 30 Seconds to Mars have created a lift off point for people to actively change the environment.

So let go of this lie we are living in by joining the efforts of individuals like 30 Seconds to Mars. Who says one person can’t make a difference?
